We're Leaving

Hey everyone,

It's been a while and I do appologize for that.  I'm writing to inform everyone that Rachel and I are leaving this Friday, December 3rd, for Thailand.  The total trip time will be between 28-30 hours to give you an idea as to how far away we will be (this travel time includes layovers).

Our flight there will take us west.  We leave from RIA (Richmond International Airport) and arrive in Dallas, TX as stop number one.  Forty-five minutes later our plane will depart sending us to Tokyo, Japan.  This will be the longest leg of our travels; a wonderful 13 hours and...some-odd minutes in the air.  Now, I have trouble sleeping on planes or traveling any form of transportation for that matter.  Anyway, after landing in Tokyo we will spend 4 hours 30 min while we wait for our final flight sending us to Bangkok, Thailand.  That segment of the trip will be roughly 7 hours.  We arrive in Bangkok at 11:35 PM Saturday (may as well be Sunday at that point).

Well, I just wanted to keep everyone updated and let you know that this trip is going to happen.  Rachel and I are both very excited and can't wait to update everyone when we arrive.  Keep checking us out and I'll keep posting, with fun and exciting updates.

Cheers,
Cush

Visas

Hey everyone!!
Well, last week is over (finally), but the new week begins.  I would like to start by saying I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe Halloween.  Halloween being one of my favorite holidays I feel the need to show you a picture of my pumpkin:
Now, having shown you my pumpkin, let me get the reason yall actually read my blog.  This past friday Rachel and I had to drive back up to Washington DC to go and get our visas.  It was a little frustrating having to battle DC traffic (again) on a Friday and having to be back in Richmond before 4 PM for work.  Surprisingly, I have to say that traffic wasn't that bad heading into DC, but for that to be the case you really have to leave and get up there after rush hour traffic.

On Tuesday last week we were told the visas would not be ready until 12:30 PM.  Just so everyone knows the Thai Embassy closes at 1.  We arrived right outside the Thai Embassay and what was really cool is we got the parking spot that was quite litterally right infront of the entrance.  We arrived right around 11:30 and figured since we had some time to kill we would go get some lunch, but not before attempting to get our visas an hour early.

Turns out that they just say 12:30 because we walked in, signed our forms, were handed our visas, and walked out all in about 45 seconds.  Now, I had never seen a visa before that day and was quite excited to see what they looked like having paid $65/visas.  The lady behind the counter handed us back our passports and showed us the visa inside our passport.  All it was was the most expensive sticker ever, but it was pretty cool looking.

While at the Thai Embassy we saw these statues on either side of the main staircase.  They were gold and kind of warrior looking:

There was also a picture of the King to the right of the staircase, but i was unable to get a good picture of him.

Well, that's about all I have for now.  We're just waiting to hear back about our flight details.  As of right now the plan is for us to leave at the end of the month.  So the good thing is we get to be home for one last holiday before we depart.  Once in Thailand we will probably take a month to get acclimated and settle into our new home and battle to harshness of the time difference.

Well, thanks again for taking the time catch up on our trip details and advancements.  You'll hear from me again when I get our flight details (or if something fun happens and I feel like sharing it).  Have a great week and we'll talk again soon.  Take care all.

Cheers,
   Cush
